How To Stay Warm During Cold Weather
Winter is definitely the time for festivities. The world lights up in the glow of Christmas lights and firecrackers adorn the sky on New Year’s Eve. But once the festivities are underway and winter is still on, it gets dreary and cold. And we start giving in to winter blues. But there is no reason to panic, as we’ve listed here some great tips on how to stay warm during cold weather.
1. Layers, Layers, Layers!
Dress like an onion! Wear tights under your jeans. Wear a thin thermal under your shirt. Add a smart pullover over it and double it up with an open cardigan and a nice scarf. And just before you step out, add your overcoat with gloves and cap. The layers help you to retain heat in your body over a longer period of time. It also makes sense because you are flexible to remove any layers indoors, depending on the room temperature.
2. Keep your ears and feet warm
Cold feet are the worst thing to have during winter. Invest in a good pair of thermal socks and sturdy winter shoes that don’t get wet. On a windy day, don’t leave the house without a pair of muffs over your ears.
3. Go on a hot diet
Change the way you eat in winter to ward off cold and fever. Drink hot herbal teas to help your immune system fight the viral in the air. Stay off coffee, for it is only caffeine and this will not have a long lasting effect. The same can be said about alcohol. It does warm you up instantly but has a reverse effect on your health. Have as many hot meals as possible, such as porridge for breakfast or soups for lunch. Needless to say, if you have a cold already, avoid consuming cold drinks and ice creams etc.
4. Exercise
Get yourself moving and put those New Year resolutions to work! We know it is easier said than done. But there is no better time of the year than winter to start exercising. Sports stimulate the release of endorphins, which are instant mood busters. Plug in your iPod with peppy music and hit the jogging track. If you are not fond of exercising outdoors, hit the gym. The socializing will cheer you up, and the exercising will surely drive away the winter blues.
5. Get cozy home décor items
The real reason why carpets and rugs were invented was to add a layer to cold wooden or stone floors and trap the heat. So invest in some carpets and cozy throws that you see in home décor stores, and you will notice quite a difference in your room temperatures.
