10 Tips to Look Smart at all Times
6. Dress sharp
Clothes can define anyone’s personality quite strongly. Dress in properly fitted, good quality clothes, which compliment your body well. Do not go in for fads and trends blindly. Instead, always aim to wear something in which you feel confident. However, if your confidence and comfort is in a jumpsuit or a pair of boxers, then maybe you’ll have to step out of your comfort zone and get into clothes that appeal to people around you.
7. Do some social service
One of the things that make a person come across a smart individual is social service. Find time to volunteer for non-profit organizations or other good causes. Mentioning this kind of an experience on your resume or during your conversations with people will always make you come across as a smart and a responsible man.
8. Find a talent or a hobby or some unique feature
You can look smart at work when you can tell your colleagues that everyday post work, you attend guitar classes, or you go to do horse-riding etc. You need to find a talent, or a hobby, or something unique in yourself to set yourself apart. If you like painting, make some sketches or paintings and stick them in your cabin. Your colleagues will know it’s something you love, and might take your advice on any artwork needed in office! Basically, do something that is different, and add a new dimension to your personality.
9. Be more vocal and fearless
The worst thing that you can do to yourself is to hide in the background on purpose. You need to be more vocal about your thoughts and opinions, in meetings and social gatherings. Do not just be a silent listener. However, at the same time, you shouldn’t feel the urge to talk on just about everything. Sometimes, the trick lies in keeping quiet till the other person is done speaking, and then you come in with your opinion or counter argument, which makes it seem like you’ve studied and analyzed the other person’s case before giving your judgment. That makes you look smarter than someone who would interrupt on every step, trying to be vocal desperately.
10. Don’t be over-smart!
There is a thin line between being smart and overdoing it. Make sure you don’t cross that line by doing things that annoy people around you, and make them detest you instead of liking you. Always try and see how people react to how you behave. If there are some things in you that other people don’t like, try avoiding them. Set yourself apart from the crowd, but don’t forget basic conformity rules, or else you’ll be left alone.
