Xmas is the time for celebrations and merrymaking all over the world. However, there are quite a few facts related to this delightful festival that are not known and we have made a list of them so that you can appear knowledgeable at your upcoming Christmas party.

1. The iconic red-nosed reindeer, Rudolph that has been a part of nursery rhymes for little children is quite a newcomer contrary to popular belief. A department store worker in the US invented it in 1939.

2. There is no specific date of birth of Jesus written in the Bible. It was in 4th century AD that Pope Julius I decided to memorize the birth of the Lord on December 25th.

3. USA received the biggest Christmas present ever in 1886 from France. It was the popular Statue of Liberty.

4. Believe it or not, but Christmas trees standing upside down have been quite a trend in some homes after they were spotted that way in departmental stores. They were placed in shops in such a fashion to save floor space.

5. Oslo has been sending a Christmas tree to London every year since 1947 as a token of thanks for the United Kingdom’s help during the World War II.

6. The mistletoe, which is hung on Christmas trees and around the house, actually means ‘dung twig’. It is generally a result of bird droppings that contain undigested seeds and have landed on trees.

7. As incredulous as this may sound, in 1644, the Parliament in England had banned the celebration of this festival because of too much merrymaking and revelry.
