You will be healthy and fit if you eat nutritious and balanced diets consisting of green leafy vegetables, fruits, nuts, milk, oats, etc. The best way to prevent not only the heart, but also other parts of your body from deteriorating is by eating as healthily as possible, right from the formative teenage years.

7. Stop smoking

Not only your lungs but your heart is also at risk when you smoke cigarettes. The nicotine increases blood pressure and releases carbon monoxide in the blood stream, thus making the heart work harder than it generally does.
