7 Tips To study well

Whether in school or college, a lot of students often ask about the best ways to study. They want to know what the best way of understanding and learning things is. Well, there is actually no set formula for that. Each student grasps information and understands things differently, at his or her own pace. But yes, when preparing for exams, or when trying to delve deeper into some subjects for the purpose of research or understanding, then there are some things one can follow to make the process a little more effective and successful.

Listed here are some tips on how to study well.

1. Create a Space

Proper learning happens in a silent room, which is clean and uncluttered. Try to be in a well-lit room, with comfortable seating. Keep all kinds of distractions, such as phones, computers etc. outside that room. Even if it’s just a desk in your bedroom, keep it as clean and organized as possible. Having a window near your study desk helps for ventilation, as well as to keep the mind relaxed.

2. Set a goal

Instead of panicking about how much you have to study, see how much time you have in hand, and set clear goals. Needless to say, it is advisable for students to not start studying last minute before the exams. Start preparing well in advance, and set daily targets. Write them on small notes that you can stick on your desk, or mark your targets on a calendar. Stick to those goals, and try and achieve them. When you do that on a daily basis, it boosts your confidence and makes your study process a lot more organized too.

3. Read Aloud

Remember how teachers used to make us read aloud in the class when we were young? That technique is actually the best for making information stay in your head. It ensures your concentration is intact, and as you focus on reading, your mind starts storing the information for you to access it later, i.e. during exam time.

4. Make Texts Visually Organized

A good way of learning and memorizing things is to develop something called a ‘photographic memory’. Make use of highlighters to mark important things in your textbooks, and also use diagrams as much as possible in your notes. Make flow-charts etc. that help your organize information well. And this will help you to remember the keywords quickly, which then act as triggers to remember everything else related to those keywords. So try and make your texts as visually organized as possible.
