6 Disadvantages of Windows 8

4. Neither here nor there

In trying to be everything for everybody, Windows 8 fails its users and particularly, enterprise users miserably. Those who want to use their machine to get real work done primarily depend on the mouse input instead of gliding on the screen with their fingers. Unfortunately, the interface doesn’t give one a great experience while using a mouse. There is a clear bias towards a touch screen usage, which as we all know enterprise users don’t.

5. The non intuitive touch interface

This may seem odd given that we just mentioned how Windows 8 is definitely biased towards the touch usage of its OS. However, it seems that they got their touch interface wrong as well. After decades of refining their point and click technology, Windows 8 represents Microsoft’s first foray into touch based computing. While it would be wrong to say that they have miserably failed in it, it would however be fair to say that the touch experience is far from fluid or intuitive and involves a bunch of different kinds of gestures which leaves most average users fuming at the futility of it all.

6. The non appealing apps

This is a problem that plagues Windows 8 mobile OS as well. However, the reasons of low app usage among Windows 8 users of phones and computers are different. While on a Windows 8 smartphone, the app usage is restricted by simply the number of apps that are available for it; in the tablets and desktops, the problem is of limited usability of apps. Most users prefer to open full fledged websites rather than open apps for it, resulting in little or no interest in the various apps that the OS features. This effectively neutralizes the positive effects of one of the touted ‘features’ of the OS.
